The Importance of Proper Vibration Isolation for Analytical Instruments
INTRODUCTION
Modern analytical laboratories depend on highly sensitive instrumentation capable of measuring chemical and physical properties with extraordinary precision. Instruments such as gas chromatographs (GC), liquid chromatographs (HPLC/UHPLC), mass spectrometers (MS), ICP-MS systems, atomic absorption spectrometers, FTIR spectrometers, and analytical balances routinely detect signals at the microgram, nanogram, and even picogram level. While these instruments are designed with sophisticated internal controls, their performance can be significantly degraded by mechanical vibration originating from vacuum pumps, building systems, nearby equipment, or foot traffic. Proper vibration isolation is therefore an essential component of laboratory design.
